- Jessica Simpson Braves Throat Problems To Appear On
TV |

JESSICA SIMPSON
ignored doctor's orders to rest her voice completely when
she appeared on MTV show TOTAL REQUEST LIVE yesterday
(29AUG06). The ailing singer refused to sing on the show, as
planned, but she croaked through an interview to promote her
new album A PUBLIC AFFAIR, which was released yesterday.
Simpson apologised for her husky tones, stating, "It doesn't
really sound like Jessica... I'm on some sort of shots and
all kinds of stuff... I'm so sad... I sound like a donkey."
The pop star-turned-actress is now desperately trying to get
well in time for Thursday night's (31AUG06) MTV Video Music
Awards, where she's a presenter. She adds, "I have to keep
my mouth shut so I'm gonna be partying around like a mute."
Instead of performing on TRL, Simpson agreed to sit and sign
CDs for the entire live audience.

- Jessica Simpson Loses Her Voice |
Jessica Simpson
has been forced to cancel a string of performances to
promote her new album A Public Affair, as she is suffering
from a bruised vocal cord.
The singer was scheduled to sing live on the Today Show,
MTV's Total Request Live and the Late Show with David
Letterman, but has had to either postpone them or appear
without performing to avoid doing any permanent damage to
her voice.
Her representative Rob Shuter told People magazine: "Jessica
has lost her voice on the eve of her album release. We hope
she can recover. The timing could not have been worse."
Another source added: "[She was told that] if she does not
observe vocal rest, she could lose her voice forever."

JESSICA SIMPSON
has found love with fellow music star JOHN MAYER, according
to press reports in the US. Simpson is in New York City to
promote her new album A PUBLIC AFFAIR, but has been forced
to cancel her media appearances because she has laryngitis.
Strangely enough, Maher is also suffering from laryngitis
and was forced to cancel a concert on Saturday night
(26AUG06) in Connecticut, where he was headlining with
SHERYL CROW. According to American publication Us Weekly,
Simpson spoke to the magazine about the relationship, saying
that Mayer was great and that she wanted to "keep it
private". Simpson recently revealed during a Texas radio
interview that she had already heard Mayer's new album
CONTINUUM, which is not due in stores until 12 September
(06). Mayer lives in New York City and Simpson will
reportedly attend his concert tonight (30AUG06) in Jones
Beach, New York. A source confirms the relationship adding,
"She's tiptoeing back into the dating world. It's the first
stage. She's never been happier."

Jessica Simpson
is desperately battling throat problems as she prepares to
launch her new album, but has refused to cancel an
appearance on MTV's TRL, which is hosted by ex-husband Nick
Lachey's new girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo.
The pop star is in New York City to promote her new album A
Public Affair and has already cancelled appearances on US
breakfast show Today and Late Show With David Letterman.
Simpson had a slew of media interviews planned and cancelled
all of them - except TRL.
Although she won't sing on the show, she will make a special
guest appearance to promote the album.
Simpson's representative Rob Shuter tells American
publication People, "Jessica has lost her voice on the eve
of her album release."
"We hope she can recover. The timing could not have been
worse."
Simpson appeared on TRL in July to debut the video for A
Public Affair and Minnillo was noticeably absent.
A source close to Simpson says the singer visited doctors on
Monday, saying, "If she does not observe vocal rest, she
could lose her voice forever."
The singer's roller-skating record release party is tonight
August 29th at the Roxy, but Simpson has been strictly
forbidden from speaking.

Singer-actress
Jessica Simpson made a brief, low-key radio appearance at
the XM Satellite Radio studios in Washington, DC to promote
her new CD, "A Public Affair."
Simpson was on the Chris Booker radio show to discuss the
national release on Tuesday of her CD. Simpson then briefly
said "hi" to some gathered fans as she left Philadelphia.
Jessica has revealed she lost eight pounds in just two weeks
so she would look her best at the Teen Choice Awards.
She said: "I have been working out five days a week for two
hours a day. There are no tricks. There is no easy way."
Before beginning her gruelling diet and exercise regime, the
'Dukes of Hazzard' actress went on a pre-diet binge.

- Braff Laughs Off Simpson Rumours |
Zach Braff has
laughed off reports he has turned to Jessica Simpson to help
mend his broken heart following his split with Mandy Moore.
The Scrubs funnyman and singer/actress Moore split in June
after 18 months together.
Braff was recently linked to newly-divorced Simpson, but
insists he is single.
He tells entertainment website TMZ.com, "Totally made up.
I've met her a couple times, she's a sweet girl but I think
I saw her two months ago at a bar in the Hamptons (New York)
and that was it."
"A relationship is hard, doing it in the public eye is
something that's very new to me. I was a waiter five years
ago and when I was a waiter nobody was telling lies about me
in the tabloids. But it's par for the course."

was rudely snubbed by pop star BRITNEY SPEARS backstage at
the TEEN CHOICE AWARDS on Sunday (20AUG06), when Simpson
innocently asked if she could kiss Spears' pregnant belly.
Simpson was hosting the show and the heavily pregnant Spears
was there to introduce husband KEVIN FEDERLINE's debut
performance as a rapper. After Simpson made her request,
Spears immediately shot back, "Hell, no!" A backstage
witness confirms the incident saying, "Jessica was really
insulted, but Britney refused to let her do it."

Nick Lachey
felt uncomfortable picking up his Best Love Song award at
the Teen Choice Awards last night - because his ex-wife and
the tune's inspiration Jessica Simpson was hosting the
ceremony.
Simpson and her 'Employee Of The Month' co-star Dane Cook
presented the star-studded bash at the Gibson Amphitheatre
in Universal City, California, where Lachey picked up two
gongs - Love Song for 'What's Left Of Me' and Red Carpet
Fashion Icon, Male.
Accepting his trophy for the song, which he wrote after his
2005 break-up with Simpson, Lachey said, "I just want to
start off by saying, awkward, a little bit."
During his acceptance speech, a fan yelled, "Take that,
Jessica."

couple's three-year marriage on auction website eBay.
Sources claim Lachey is planning a big cyber sale of
pictures and keepsakes that he has collected from the TV
shows and specials recorded when he and his former wife were
married. The ex-98 DEGREES singer will hand over the
proceeds from the sale of the items to an educational
charity. A friend says, "Nick is going to hold on to the
really sentimental stuff. There are a few things he can't
bare to part with."

Simpson's romance with Zach Braff isn't going too well.
The recently divorced "Newlyweds" star seemed "put off" by
the advances of the "Scrubs" star at a recent event at the
Pink Elephant in the Hamptons, according to msnb.com, citing
reports in the new issue of The Star.
"He was flirting up a storm and being very aggressive," a
source told the tabloid. "You could tell it grossed out Jess
and her friends. He was like a horny schoolboy."
None of the string of hotties that Simpson has been linked
with is panning out. She "blindsided" her "Employee of the
Month" co-star, Dane Cook, by calling him June 22 and saying
they should split up, according to the Star. Reps for the
two have denied that they were ever an item, but gossips
insist that they've secretly dated. And Simpson's fling with
Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine has apparently flopped.
"Jessica is lonely and needy," a source told Star. "She's
having a hard time dealing with the fact that [ex-husband]
Nick [Lachey] is in love [with MTV's Vanessa Minnillo]."

has confessed her latest single was accidentally influenced
by pop superstar MADONNA's HOLIDAY. After posting A PUBLIC
AFFAIR on her website in June (06), Simpson has received a
barrage of criticism claiming the song is too close to
Madonna's 1984 hit. But Simpson retorts that's exactly what
her fans need and is refusing to apologise for the retro
sound. She tells MTV, "I think people are ready to hear
something that Madonna used to do. We all need to hear that
every now and again. "It wasn't a sample or something I
meant to do, but she did influence me and still does today.
I hope to have the longevity of her career."

listened to the song LET HIM FLY repeatedly to comfort her
during her divorce from ex-husband NICK LACHEY, and the
track has become so important to her she has included it on
her new album. At Christmas last year (05) when the couple
announced they were separating, Simpson used the PATTY
GRIFFIN song's lyrics to reassure herself she was doing the
right thing. Simpson claims she was going through "a really
rough time" and enjoyed bittersweet times listening to the
ballad with her younger sister ASHLEE. She tells MTV News,
"We laid there listening to the song and just cried and
cried like babies. "In a lot of ways, my sister really gave
me the strength to pull through this really hard time. And
it was just laying there and being with her that got me
through it. "I knew everything would be OK. The song is
about how sometimes you just have to know when to let
something go. And that was that moment. And I had to sing
it."
